2012 UNDPI Model UN Workshop
2012 MUN Workshop At a Glance
A Model UN Workshop is being organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI) from 27-29 August 2012 at UN Headquarters in New York. This workshop aims to provide student leaders who are actively involved in organizing Model UN programmes at the university level around the world with a deeper understanding of how the General Assembly operates.
The Workshop will be open to any student who will be organizing a Model UN programme at the university level any where in the world between September 2012 and August 2013. Faculty advisors who have a role in planning MUN conferences as well as students who are interested in organizing a Model UN conference and have had a leadership role in other Model UN programmes can also apply. Application forms are available in the Registration section of this site.
There is no registration fee for students or faculty advisors who are eligible to attend the 2012 MUN Workshop at UN Headquarters in New York. However, once accepted, participants will be responsible for all travel and living costs during the three-day workshop. A list of affordable hotels and youth hostels can be found in the NYC section of the site.
The workshop will focus on giving MUN organizers a basic understanding of the General Assembly’s Rules and Procedures, the discussion and action phases of General Assembly Committee meetings, what you need to know when drafting resolutions, the duties and responsibilities of the UN Secretariat and General Assembly officials, and more. The aim of the workshop is to examine how Model UN simulations can more accurately capture the negotiation process as it commonly occurs at the UN. The workshop will provide unprecedented access to UN senior officials.
